Anne Marquess Garrott 1915 - 2013
President Emerita, SWBCA, Inc.

Anne Garrott was the driving force behind the continuity of core programs of leadership development for women and youth over her nearly 90 years with the organization.

Garrott, a civic leader in Philadelphia for more than half a century, was born on December 27, 1914, and departed this life peacefully on Monday, August 12, 2013, at Chandler Hall in Bucks County. She was the third of three children born to the late Dr. John Miller Marquess and Anna Dickson Marquess while they lived on the campus of Langston University in Oklahoma where Dr. Marquess served as president of the school.

The Board of SWBCA has honored her service and memory by establishing the Anne M. Garrott Leadership Scholarship Endowment to provide scholarships and assistance to students and educational programs.

The Application Process

Southwest Belmont Community Association, Inc. is a Pennsylvania nonprofit corporation that engaged Glenmede Investments to establish the Anne M. Garrott Leadership Scholarship Endowment in 2011 and to serve as the endowment's investment manager.

Seniors in public, charter, and parochial high schools who are planning to go to college or vocational school and sophomores, juniors, or seniors in college are invited to apply.

​

The SWBCA Scholarship Committee accepts applications, evaluates, and recommends finalists to the SWBCA Board. Winners and their parents/guardians attend a special awards luncheon each spring.
